We are so proud to announce that Hostile has been long-listed for the The Douglas Hickox Award (Best Debut Director) at the BIFAs. She is honoured to have been long-listed amongst fantastic directors.
You can view the trailer here bit.ly/hostile-trailer. Hostile will have its premier at Raindance Film Festival on October 29th.
With Sonita being a debut director, with a very small independent team, it was difficult to access any funding for our film or gain interest from commissioners.
“With no track record and just a big dream to make a film about similar communities I grew up in, I pushed ahead with a team that had the same dream as me. A team that stands with me today and one that I am so proud of truly. For this reason I am thrilled to be acknowledged by the BIFAs, an organisation that champions innovative, British, independent productions. As ‘Hostile’ questions notions of Britishness and belonging, it’s fitting to have been longlisted for the BIFAs and I hope that by raising awareness for the film we can continue these conversations.”
We are on the road with the trailer, trying to raise awareness about the ‘no recourse to public funds’ policy and trying to bring communities together to alleviate misconceptions that are so prevalent in our daily news. We have far more in common that separates us and it’s in those commonalities that we will find a place to heal, nurture and bring about a fairer society for all.
The final nominations will be announced on Wednesday 3rd November. ???? We wish everyone on the list the best of luck for the voting ahead.
