As a filmmaker, Sonita said the personal nature of the story made her want to embark on her directing debut. Through the documentary she wanted to raise awareness of the issues migrants face in our country, and what it feels like to live day-by-day in such circumstances.

“It’s clear to me that if my parents came to the UK today, they would have found it very difficult to integrate, to start careers, to buy a house, to contribute, and to raise a family,” she said.
