On Saturday 3rd April, we filmed at the Kill the Bill protest in Westminster.
We marched peacefully against the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill. The Bill is 300 pages long, and contains dozens of new measures. The Government is there to ensure that our communities are safe and free. Parts of this Bill will facilitate discrimination and undermine protest.
The House of Commons is supposed to be a beacon of liberty but this repressive legislation is a far cry from what our country stands for. We should all be able to stand up for what we believe in, yet these proposals would give the police yet more powers to clamp down on protest. Marginalised communities will be targeted more with an increased power to stop and search, profiling individuals and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities may face increased police enforcement through the criminalisation of trespass.
There were some fantastic speakers at the event including Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana who are both participants in Hostile.
Since filming Hostile, many things have concerned us but this has all come to a head with this legislation if passed, our freedom of speech and movement are being targeted.
