Today is International Women’s Day.
The first International Women’s Day was marked in 1911, and was created as a way to promote equal rights and women’s suffrage.
In 2023, Galeforce Films wants to take this moment to acknowledge all the women that are standing up to the ‘hostile environment.’
Hostile features the stories of some incredible people: from politicians or academics speaking out against harmful legislation and local organisers making sure that their community are fed, to mothers raising their families or friends supporting their friends.
In 2022, Director Sonita Gale went to 11 Downing Street for an event organised by AWITA (Association of Women in the Arts). She spoke to Rishi Sunak about the film and her reasons for making it. It is now a year on and policies are only getting more hostile.
Galeforce Films stands in solidarity with the women that continue to suffer under the ‘hostile environment’ every day.
