On Sunday 4th December, director Sonita Gale attended the British Independent Film Awards ceremony in London.
BIFA is an organisation that celebrates, promotes, and supports independent filmmaking and filmmakers in the UK, and the evening was certainly a celebration of the best the country has to offer.
Founded in 1998 by Elliot Grove and Suzanne Ballantyne, and now run by Amy Gustin & Deena Wallace, BIFA has championed the best and most innovative independently funded British filmmaking for over 20 years, working at the heart of the industry to nurture emerging talent, promote fair practice, and develop a broader, more inclusive audience for British independent film.
After Hostile was longlisted at last year’s event, Sonita was invited to vote for this year’s Douglas Hickox Award category for Best Debut Director and was able to contribute to the rising number of diverse voices that are a part of the UK’s film industry.
Congratulations to all the night’s nominees and winners! #BIFA2022
